The Ghanaian football community has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a young and promising talent whose life was cut short in a shocking armed robbery attack.
A Rising Star Gone Too Soon
Born on August 26, 2005, in Accra, Frimpong was a talented winger who showed immense potential early in his career. At just 20 years old, he was beginning to make his mark in the Ghana Premier League, playing for Berekum Chelsea F.C. on loan from Aduana Stars F.C..
During the 2025/26 season, he made 13 appearances and scored two goals—numbers that only hinted at the bright future ahead of him. Coaches and teammates described him as dedicated, humble, and full of passion for the game.
The Night of the Attack
Frimpong’s life was tragically cut short on April 12, 2026, after a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex 1996.
As the team bus traveled back from the game, it was ambushed by armed robbers along a highway. Reports indicate that masked gunmen blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle as the driver attempted to reverse and escape.
In the chaos, players and officials fled into nearby bushes for safety. Tragically, Frimpong was struck in the head by a bullet. He was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, becoming the only fatality among the roughly 30 people on board.
